Speaking Event #2
On Sunday March 12th, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. I attended the Ord United Methodist Church. The guest speaker was Allen Knapp. He was speaking on his missionary trip to South America. He made good use of his microphone. He spoke clearly to the audience. His speech was well prepared. The disposition towards the topic suited the audience members. It was the backing from the Methodists Church that paid for the missionary trip. It had been approximately 5 months since he had taken the trip to South America. They went to Paraguay, a very poor country. The trip was a humanitarian mission. The flight was from the United States to Brazil, and then on to South America. The trip took approximately 30 hours one direction. Customs questioned whether the medical supplies that would be used to help the poor people of Paraguay were legitimate. After some persuasion customs let them through. The mission had 15 acres and three school buildings. The children wore uniforms. The speaker spoke of faith, courage and strength. People were building restrooms and showers for the kids. The mission was trying to teach them about personal hygiene. The missionaries were very fortunate to have three doctors and two dentist's. The missionaries worked from morning until night. They loaded all the medical provisions and food supplies. The place was described as primitive. The public speaker was audience centered. He painted a wonderful picture verbally for the audience as to capture their imagination and keep their attention. When the speech was finished he asked if anyone had any questions. I asked a question regarding security and was given an informative answer. The only thing I noticed about the speech that I would have changed would be the amount of times the speaker said the word..um
